Apple's foray into augmented reality (AR) technology with the Vision Pro headset has been met with anticipation and excitement, particularly regarding its innovative EyeSight feature. However, recent reviews, notably by Jason Cross of Macworld, have cast doubt on the efficacy of EyeSight. Cross's analysis, supported by real-life examples and comparison with Apple's promotional material, suggests significant shortcomings in the feature's performance.
According to Cross, the EyeSight display suffers from several critical issues, including low resolution, blurriness, and limited brightness. The narrow strip of the display further exacerbates these problems, hindering clear visibility of the wearer's eyes. Additionally, the glossy finish of the headset creates distracting highlights, particularly in well-lit environments, detracting from the overall experience.
Despite Apple's emphasis on EyeSight as a means of preserving human connections, Cross argues that the feature's current state falls short of expectations. Even under optimal conditions, the rendered image of the user's eyes appears faint and ethereal, failing to provide a substantial bridge between virtual and real-world interactions.
While some may speculate about potential software updates to address these issues, Cross contends that fundamental hardware improvements are necessary to achieve meaningful enhancements.
