Vintage Vibes Meet Cutting-Edge Tech
AudioScape, in partnership with Canadian plug-in developer Kiive Audio, has launched its inaugural software product, the XL‑305R Equally Tempered Stereo Reverb Plugin. Crafted for those embracing a digital workflow but craving the warmth of vintage analog reverbs, this plug-in faithfully replicates the renowned XL-305R Spring Reverb from AudioScape.
The hardware inspiration for this digital marvel, originally surfaced in 1979 courtesy of Micmix. Featuring 12 springs with equally-tempered tuning, AudioScape's hardware unit captured a distinctive sonic identity, reminiscent of opening a piano lid and singing into its strings. Over a meticulous four-year development period guided by the original designer, AudioScape transformed the vintage hardware into a modernized rendition.
The XL-305R plug-in mirrors both the functionality and sonic characteristics of its hardware precursor, even offering a GUI option to emulate the original Micmix control panel's style. Each of its two channels boasts input level controls, a wet/dry mix dial, and a four-band EQ section with ±10dB adjustment per band. Channels can be controlled independently or linked for precise stereo adjustments. Practical features like GUI scaling, undo/redo functions, and a built-in A/B comparison tool enhance user experience.
