The highly anticipated role-playing game, Baldur's Gate 3, has made its way to Xbox, but fans hoping for a Game Pass inclusion might find themselves disappointed. In an exclusive interview with IGN, Swen Vincke, the founder of Larian Studios, shed light on the decision to keep Baldur's Gate 3 out of Xbox's subscription service, citing a commitment to delivering a complete gaming experience.

Vincke addressed the speculation head-on, stating:

"Oh, we always said from the get-go, it wasn't going to be on Game Pass, it's not going to be on Game Pass."

Despite inquiries about whether Xbox attempted to secure the game for the service, Vincke maintained a firm stance, characterizing it as a "sensitive question".

The heart of the matter, according to Vincke, lies in Larian Studios' dedication to crafting games with a clear narrative structure. "We're in the business of making a game that has a beginning, middle, and an end", he emphasized. The absence of microtransactions in Baldur's Gate 3 also played a significant role, with Vincke asserting that players receive a substantial, upfront gaming experience without additional costs.

Baldur's Gate 3 is no small undertaking, with completionist runs clocking in at upwards of 144 hours, according to data from HowLongToBeat. Vincke's rationale for a traditional purchase model stands in contrast to other titles, like Starfield, which joined Game Pass from launch. Starfield's inclusion resulted in substantial sign-ups, but the success of Game Pass has faced ongoing scrutiny regarding its costs and benefits, with varying opinions from industry insiders.

The decision not to bring Baldur's Gate 3 to Game Pass does not appear to hinder its success. Already hailed as one of the most successful games on Steam, the RPG has garnered acclaim. The game's extensive content and replayability, with players exploring unique routes like the Dark Urge, contribute to its undeniable appeal.

As discussions about the role of subscription services in the gaming industry continue, Baldur's Gate 3 remains a testament to the enduring allure of traditional game purchases. Larian Studios' refusal to compromise on their vision highlights a commitment to delivering a comprehensive and memorable gaming experience.
