Bethesda Game Studios has unveiled the anticipated release time frame for the upcoming expansion to its space-based RPG, Starfield. During a recent appearance on the Kinda Funny Gamecast, Todd Howard, the studio's director, announced that the first expansion pack, titled Shattered Space, is scheduled to drop this fall. This news is especially significant for players who purchased the higher-end editions of Starfield, as they were promised the expansion at no additional cost. Despite sharing the time frame, Howard provided no further details on what the expansion will encompass.

Given the limited information, speculation is rife about what Shattered Space might bring to Starfield's vast universe. It's anticipated that more details could be revealed at Microsoft's Xbox Game Showcase event, scheduled for early June.

In addition to the expansion news, Howard teased a significant update for Starfield, focusing on shipbuilding. Although no specifics were given, Howard indicated that this update would arrive "really soon", raising expectations among the game's community. Shipbuilding is a core element of Starfield's gameplay, and enhancements in this area could provide players with new ways to customize and engage with the game.

Howard also addressed the long-awaited Creation Kit for Starfield, confirming that it has been sent to some mod makers. This toolset is designed to officially support mods on both PC and Xbox platforms, expanding the game's customization and longevity. Bethesda first announced the Creation Kit in September 2023, and Howard's comments suggest that further details on its capabilities and availability are imminent.

Despite the ongoing work on Starfield expansion content and updates, Bethesda Game Studios is also progressing with its next major title, The Elder Scrolls VI. In March, to commemorate the franchise's 30th anniversary, Bethesda shared an update on the game, hinting that early builds are generating excitement within the team. However, given the complexity and scope of The Elder Scrolls series, the final release is likely several years away.

With the upcoming Shattered Space expansion, the major shipbuilding update, and the potential for new mods through the Creation Kit, Starfield players have much to look forward to in the coming months. Bethesda Game Studios continues to engage its community with fresh content while laying the groundwork for its next epic adventure in The Elder Scrolls franchise.
