Google's Upcoming Flagship to Feature Superior Display Technology, Aiming to Surpass Samsung's Galaxy S24
Google has officially announced that the much-anticipated Pixel 9 series will debut on August 13 at the Pixel hardware event. This marks a significant departure from Google's tradition of launching its flagship Pixel phones in October, stirring anticipation and curiosity among tech enthusiasts worldwide.
The buzz surrounding the Pixel 9 series intensified with a recent leak indicating that the phone might already be on sale in Algeria. The leak also showcased a vibrant pink variant of the vanilla Pixel 9, a color choice that is quite uncharacteristic for Google, adding to the intrigue as the launch date approaches.

A LEAP IN DISPLAY TECHNOLOGY. According to a report by ETNews, the Pixel 9 series will feature an advanced OLED display that could outperform the display technology found in Samsung's own Galaxy S24 series. Samsung Display, the display manufacturing arm of Samsung Electronics, is set to supply the Pixel 9 series with the cutting-edge M14 OLED display panels. This is a notable upgrade, considering the Galaxy S24 series will reportedly use the older M13 OLED panels.
An industry insider revealed:
"Samsung Display has placed orders with M14 material suppliers and is preparing for production. Google and Apple smartphones are the targets."
This collaboration implies that Google’s upcoming Pixel devices could potentially offer superior display quality compared to Samsung's flagship models, elevating the competition between these tech giants.

IMPLICATIONS FOR THE PIXEL AND BEYOND. Samsung is expected to supply M14 OLED displays for a total of four Pixel models, hinting at the potential launch of the Pixel Fold 2 alongside the Pixel 9 series at the August event. The M14 OLED panels promise higher performance, with improvements in brightness and lifespan, thanks to the advanced materials used.
Additionally, the upcoming iPhone 16 Pro models are also rumored to feature Samsung’s M14 OLED panels, further cementing Samsung Display's dominance in the high-end smartphone market. The standard iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus, however, will reportedly continue to use the M12 OLED panels seen in the previous generation.
A COMPETITIVE EDGE. If the reports are accurate, the integration of M14 OLED displays in the Pixel 9 series will position Google’s flagship on par with, or potentially ahead of, both Samsung and Apple in terms of display technology. This strategic move could significantly boost the appeal of the Pixel 9, attracting consumers looking for the latest advancements in smartphone displays.
