In recent leaks, two flagship laptops, the Samsung Galaxy Book4 Ultra and Asus ROG Zephyrus M16, have been identified as featuring Intel Core Ultra 9 185H processors. However, concerns are growing as performance issues come to light, potentially affecting the user experience.

Geekbench 6.2 scores for the Intel Core Ultra 9 185H reveal a lackluster performance, scoring 2.047 in the single-core test and 11.274 in the multi-core test. A comparison with its earlier Geekbench 5.4 scores (1,803/9,806) indicates a concerning decline in performance rather than an improvement. In contrast, its lower-specced counterpart, the Intel Core Ultra 7 155H, outperforms it with scores of 2,424 and 12,437 in the same benchmark.

While it's not uncommon for pre-production hardware to exhibit lower performance, the Intel Core Ultra 9 185H's underwhelming results, especially when compared to its predecessors (Intel Core Ultra 7 155H), raise red flags. The cause of the performance dip seems to stem from the processor's inability to maintain its advertised 5 GHz boost clock, as indicated by an observed high degree of instability during the Geekbench tests.

With these concerns looming, potential buyers may be hesitant to invest in laptops equipped with the Intel Core Ultra 9 185H. The scheduled mid-2024 release date for these laptops leaves room for optimization and improvements, but it remains to be seen whether Intel can address these performance issues effectively. As the tech community eagerly awaits further developments, the fate of these high-end laptops hangs in the balance.
