Platinum 8558P & 8551C Leak and Benchmark Revelations
Two additional members of Intel's 5th Gen Xeon "Emerald Rapids" family, the Platinum 8558P and the 8551C, have surfaced on the Geekbench database, revealing intriguing details about their specifications and performance.
Expanding the lineup beyond the previously leaked SKUs—8592+, 8580, & the 8558U—the newly discovered Xeon Platinum 8558P and 8551C promise tailored solutions for diverse workloads while maintaining compatibility with the Eagle Stream platform and the LGA 4677 socket.
Both CPUs share a formidable core configuration featuring 48 cores based on the Raptor Cove P-Cores, delivering a robust 96 threads. However, an interesting departure lies in the cache department. The 8558P and 8551C exhibit a departure from the cache abundance seen in the 8558U, with 16 MB of L3 cache and a substantial 192 MB of L2 cache. This divergence sparks curiosity about whether this is an anomaly or a deliberate design choice, though it remains notably higher than the Sapphire Rapids SKUs:
The clock speeds reveal subtle differentiators between the two processors. The Xeon Platinum 8558P operates at a base clock of 2.70 GHz, with a boost clock of 3.20 GHz. On the other hand, the 8551C steps up with a slightly higher base frequency of 2.90 GHz, maintaining the identical boost clock of 3.20 GHz.
In terms of performance, the Intel Emerald Rapids CPUs exhibit commendable results, although the EPYC Genoa 48-Core chip manages to surpass them in both single and multi-core tests. While the Xeon Platinum 8558P & 8551C showcase improvements over their 4th Gen Sapphire Rapids predecessors, it appears that Genoa maintains the lead in both performance and efficiency.
The anticipated debut of the Intel Emerald Rapids CPUs on December 14th, alongside Intel's Meteor Lake "Core Ultra" family, adds an extra layer of excitement. As the launch date approaches, enthusiasts can expect more insights into the capabilities and innovations that Intel's latest offerings bring to the table. Stay tuned for comprehensive coverage as we get closer to the much-anticipated launch date.
