Swiss Company Micro Launches the Microlino Lite, a Compact and Eco-Friendly Electric Microcar, Targeting Urban Dwellers' Needs
In a bid to revolutionize urban commuting, Swiss company Micro has unveiled its latest innovation, the Microlino Lite, at the Geneva Motor Show. Designed as a compact and eco-friendly electric microcar, the Microlino Lite offers a sustainable solution for navigating dense city streets, catering to the needs of urbanites seeking convenience and efficiency in their daily travels.
With a top speed of 45km/h, the Microlino Lite presents a slower yet equally efficient alternative to its standard counterpart. This reduced speed not only enhances safety but also makes it accessible to a wider demographic, as it can be driven by individuals with a moped license from the age of 14 in select European countries.
Targeting the European market initially, Micro aims to expand its reach to the United States, with plans to introduce the Microlino Lite as a Neighborhood Electric Vehicle (NEV) by the end of 2024. This strategic move underscores the company's commitment to providing sustainable transportation solutions on a global scale.
The appeal of microcars like the Microlino Lite lies in their ability to offer unparalleled convenience in urban settings. Occupying minimal parking space and boasting a lightweight design, these vehicles consume significantly less energy compared to standard electric vehicles (EVs). Whether it's commuting to work, running errands, or transporting passengers and pets, the Microlino Lite caters to diverse urban mobility needs with ease.
Featuring a steel unibody design and compact dimensions of 2.5m length, 1.47m width, and 1.5m height, the Microlino Lite ensures maneuverability through narrow city streets while providing ample interior space for driver and passenger comfort. With a curb weight under 600kg and 6kW of power, it falls under the L6e vehicle category, allowing individuals with an AM-class moped license to operate it in Europe.
The Microlino Lite offers versatility in terms of range, with options for a 5.5kWh or 11kWh battery pack. While the base model provides a range of approximately 100km, the upgraded version extends the range to a maximum of 177km, catering to varying travel needs. Charging is convenient, with the 5.5kWh battery reaching 80 percent capacity in about two hours, and the 11kWh battery requiring approximately four hours for a full charge.
In terms of affordability, the Microlino Lite presents an attractive leasing option, with prices starting at CHF149 per month (about €156 or $169) for a 48-month lease, making it a cost-effective alternative to traditional modes of transportation. Compared to other electric microcars on the market, the Microlino Lite offers competitive pricing without compromising on quality or performance.
Manufactured in Turin, Italy, the Microlino Lite upholds the same standards of craftsmanship and attention to detail as its predecessor. Available in blue or anthracite grey, with options for both base and premium interior configurations, including vegan leather seats, velour upholstery, and integrated technology features, the Microlino Lite combines style with functionality.
Preorders for the Microlino Lite are now open, with deliveries slated for early summer. While initial availability may be limited to European markets, Micro's expansion plans signal a promising future for sustainable urban mobility solutions worldwide. As cities continue to grapple with congestion and pollution challenges, the Microlino Lite emerges as a beacon of innovation, offering a greener, more efficient way to navigate urban landscapes.
