A Deeper Look at Xiaomi's New Flagship Smartphones
Xiaomi has just launched its highly anticipated Xiaomi 14 and Xiaomi 14 Pro, setting new standards in the world of mobile photography and display technology.
The Xiaomi 14 Pro, the premium offering in this release, brings forth some intriguing camera innovations. While the primary camera is equipped with a 50MP resolution, it uses a smaller 1/1.31" sensor compared to its predecessor, the Xiaomi 13 Pro. However, it compensates with a Leica-developed 23mm-equiv. lens featuring an impressive f/1.42-f/4 variable aperture, promising enhanced low-light performance. Optical image stabilization, dual pixel PDAF, and manual aperture control further refine the camera experience.
Notably, the Xiaomi 14 Pro also inherits the Leica-branded ultrawide and telephoto cameras from the 13 Pro, both boasting a 50MP resolution. The ultrawide camera offers a 115-degree field of view and an f/2.2 max aperture, while the telephoto module provides 3.2x optical zoom with OIS and an f/2 aperture. The device can capture 8K HDR video at 24fps and 4K video at up to 60fps.
The Xiaomi 14 Pro features a 6.73-inch display with a 1440 x 3200 resolution and a 1-120Hz variable refresh rate AMOLED screen. It offers a remarkable 3,000-nit peak brightness, 68 billion display colors, and switches to Xiaomi's Ceramic Glass for enhanced durability.
Under the hood, the device is powered by a Qualcomm SM8650-AB Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC with options for 12GB or 16GB of RAM and up to 1TB of internal storage. The phone's 4880mAh battery supports rapid 120W wired charging and 50W wireless HyperCharge.
The Xiaomi 14 Pro is available for pre-order in China, with prices starting at CNY 4,999 (approximately USD $684) for the 12GB/256GB base model, rising to CNY 5,999 (approximately USD $821) for the 16GB/1TB variant. Global availability and pricing are yet to be confirmed.
Xiaomi 14: A Compact Yet Powerful Alternative
The Xiaomi 14, positioned as a more compact and budget-friendly alternative to the 14 Pro, boasts a 6.36-inch OLED display with a high 1200 x 2670 resolution, variable refresh rate, and an impressive peak brightness of 3,000 nits.
In terms of photography, the Xiaomi 14 features a 50MP primary camera with a fixed f/1.6 aperture, providing up to 180% better light sensitivity compared to its predecessor, the Xiaomi 13. This phone's camera setup mirrors that of the 14 Pro, with a 50MP ultrawide and 50MP telephoto camera.
The device is equipped with a Qualcomm SM8650-AB Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC, offering up to 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage. Its 4610mAh battery supports rapid 90W wired charging and 50W wireless charging.
The Xiaomi 14 is available for pre-order in China with prices ranging from CNY 4,299 (approximately USD $591) for the 12GB/256GB model to CNY 4,999 (approximately USD $684) for the top-tier 16GB/1TB variant.
As of now, these new Xiaomi devices are only available for pre-order in China, with global availability and regional pricing details yet to be revealed. Xiaomi's latest releases promise to provide impressive camera capabilities and cutting-edge display technology, making them an exciting addition to the competitive smartphone market.
