Users Gain Control Over Notification Sounds and Haptics
Apple has introduced a new option in the latest iteration of iOS 17.2 beta 4, allowing users the flexibility to customize their default notification sound and corresponding haptic feedback. This development comes in response to user feedback following the initial release of iOS 17 in September.
Initially, users expressed frustration over the inability to modify the default notification sound, named Rebound, which had replaced the traditional tri-tone alert. Compounding the issue, users found the Rebound sound to be inadequately loud, lacking any provision for volume adjustment.
During the discovery of this issue, users were left with limited recourse—essentially voicing their grievances to Apple and hoping for a remedy. Thankfully, Apple has been attentive to user concerns.
Upon scrutinizing the fourth beta of iOS 17.2, as highlighted in a post by @iSWUpdates, it is now evident that users can tailor their default notification sound and associated haptic feedback. This option is conveniently located within the Settings app, specifically under Sounds & Haptics, amidst a selection of choices for assigning sounds to various on-phone actions. The newly introduced option is labeled "Default Alerts".
The presence of this feature in the fourth beta suggests a positive indication that the modification will be seamlessly integrated into the final release, expected to reach the public in the upcoming weeks.
