The Production Will Allegedly Begin in 2024
Sources with "knowledge of the matter" have informed the Korea Herald that LG Display is gearing up to commence OLED production for the latest iPad Pro as early as February next year. As reported on Mac Rumors this timeframe, about three months earlier than initially anticipated, marks a significant advancement in the production schedule. The revelation aligns closely with a report from just last week.
The forthcoming iPad Pro models, slated for OLED integration, are expected to bear a price tag three times higher than their iPhone counterparts. This pricing shift may, in turn, lead to increased costs for customers, according to insiders. The existing 11-inch iPad Pro employs an LCD panel, while the 12.9-inch variant features mini-LED backlighting, providing enhanced brightness and a superior contrast ratio. The adoption of OLED technology promises benefits such as a heightened contrast ratio with deeper blacks, reduced power consumption, and more.
Apple is anticipated to incorporate ultra-thin hybrid OLED displays, utilizing a combination of flexible and rigid materials, potentially resulting in a slimmer profile for the next iPad Pro models. Reports suggest that LG is in line to provide around 60% of the OLED panels required, while Samsung is expected to supply the remaining portion, focusing primarily on the 11-inch model. This strategic move in production is poised to contribute significantly to LG Display's financial recovery in the coming year. Negotiations on pricing are reportedly underway between Apple and the two display giants.
