One of Korg' standout offerings, Korg Gadget, has garnered praise for its user-friendly interface, gadgetized synths, and drum machines, making music creation accessible to all. However, a notable shortcoming has been the absence of Audio Unit version 3 (AUv3) support on iOS. With the advent of Korg Gadget 3, the software undergoes a significant transformation.

NAMM 2024 Unveils Korg Gadget 3

As anticipation builds for the NAMM 2024 music tech show, Korg takes the spotlight with the release of Korg Gadget 3. This major update spans iOS, macOS, and Windows versions, with the latter limited to plugins only. The core essence of Gadget remains intact – a simplified Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) boasting synthesizers, effects, and gadgets.

Introducing New Gadgets and Effects

The version 3 update introduces two new gadgets: Santa Ana, a sample-based rhythm guitar virtual instrument, and Sydney, a versatile loop sampler with time-stretching capabilities. Complementing these additions are five new effects (IFX) that enhance sonic possibilities, including an 8-band EQ, transient shaper, stereo imager, auto-pumper, and a pitch shifter.

The most awaited feature for iOS users is the inclusion of AUv3 support. This groundbreaking addition liberates Gadget instruments from the confines of its ecosystem, enabling integration with other apps like Logic Pro and AUM. Owners of all Gadgets can now access 40+ new virtual instruments across various applications.

Enhanced Workflow and Intuitive Design

Korg promises an enhanced workflow and improved intuitiveness in Gadget 3 through optimizations. A new Play page introduces an easy-to-use arpeggiator and chord function, enhancing the creative process. The update also unveils a sound browser, allowing users to select Gadgets based on timbre, with access to over 6,000 sound programs for those unlocking the complete Gadget Instrument collection.

Additionally, a genre-select function empowers users to create songs from favorite patterns, introducing a built-in song mode that adds flexibility to the composition process. The culmination of these features marks a significant step forward for Gadget.

Availability and Pricing

Korg Gadget 3 is available now at an introductory price of $249, reduced from $299, for macOS. The Gadget 3 plugins can be obtained for an introductory price of $149 and are compatible with macOS and Windows. Existing users of Korg Gadget 2 and plugins can upgrade for $99.

For iOS musicians, Korg Gadget 3 is available at an introductory price of $19.99, with the new instruments accessible via in-app purchase for $9.99. The update from version 2.0 to 3.0 is free of charge for existing iOS users. For more information, visit the dedicated page on Korg website.
