Korg has recently announced an impressive lineup of synthesizer releases for the year 2024. The highlight of this announcement is the return of the iconic KingKORG, now reimagined as the compact and powerful KingKORG NEO. Additionally, Korg introduces three new desktop/rackmount modules featuring the Opsix, Wavestate, and Modwave, along with an upgraded version of their FM-based instrument, the Opsix mk II.

KingKORG NEO: A Compact Powerhouse

The KingKORG NEO (pictured above) marks the triumphant return of a classic, now featuring 37 full-size keys and a refreshed design. This compact instrument is driven by Korg's XMT (eXpanded Modelling Technology) virtual analogue engine, equipped with three oscillators offering a diverse selection of waveshapes. From classic sawtooth and square to PCM and DWGS options, the KingKORG NEO ensures a broad sonic palette.

The instrument boasts an extensive array of filter types, including models inspired by 1970s analogue monosynths, later polysynth filters, and selections from the popular MS-20. A robust vocoder section, complete with a 16-band filter, promises both vintage and modern vocal tones. The KingKORG NEO also features a versatile effects section with three master effects slots, each offering a choice of six different effects types.

Modulation possibilities abound with envelope generators, LFOs, and a built-in joystick, all assignable via a Virtual Patch system. The instrument is further enhanced by a step arpeggiator, capable of automatically generating phrases based on played chords.

New Modules: Opsix, Wavestate, Modwave

Korg extends its instrument lineup with desktop/rackmount modules for the Opsix, Wavestate, and Modwave.

These modules retain all the features of their keyboard-equipped counterparts but in a more compact form, suitable for those with limited space or who prefer using their own controller keyboard. The modules support MIDI 2.0 Property Exchange and polyphonic aftertouch, with the Opsix offering an increased number of voices.

Opsix mk II: A Visual Redesign and Increased Voices

An updated version of the Opsix, the Opsix mk II, not only undergoes a visual redesign but also doubles its predecessor's voice count, now boasting an impressive 64 voices. It remains fully compatible with the original version's sounds and samples, as well as the Opsix Native software.

More to Come

Korg has teased additional product launches scheduled for later in the year, including the NTS-1 Digital mk II, NTS-3 KAOSS Pad, and microKORG 2. Stay tuned for more details on these exciting developments.
