Korg has revived the legendary PS-3300 analog poly synthesizer in a full-scale reissue, known as the PS-3300 FS. This epic synth, first introduced in 1977 and played by iconic musicians like Vangelis, Jean-Michel Jarre, and Emerson, Lake, and Palmer, is set to make a grand return.

The original PS-3300 was a rare and expensive instrument, cherished for its unique circuitry, massive hardware, and scarcity. However, recent developments in software emulation by Full Bucket Music and Cherry Audio brought the PS-3300 back into the spotlight. Now, Korg is taking it a step further by resurrecting the Monster Poly Synth.

According to Korg, the PS-3300 FS is not just a reproduction but an authentic reissue of the original, designed by the legendary Korg engineer Fumio Mieda, who also played a significant role in creating the iconic MS-20. Yoshihito Yamada, chief Engineer of Korg analog synthesizers, expresses the significance of this comeback, stating that it involves reproducing circuits, sounds, and embracing the essence of synthesizer development.

The PS-3300 FS will maintain the original's three independent synth layers, each equipped with three oscillators, multiple filters, envelopes, and amplifiers for every note.

The modern update includes an expanded voice count of 49 keys and 49 voices, providing a staggering 147 synth voices of raw analog polyphonic goodness.

Incorporating a semi-modular concept, the synth allows users to create complex signal routings and sounds through patching with cables. The 3-band resonator, a distinctive feature of the original, is also retained, emphasizing three frequency bands. To ensure safety and compliance with regulations, the new PS-3300 FS is based on modern components while maintaining the authenticity of the original design.

A notable addition to the PS-3300 FS is the panel memory function with 16 programs per bank and 16 banks in total, offering a generous total of 256 slots. Korg also includes a dedicated librarian app for easy preset management. The synth comes bundled with the PS-3010 keyboard unit, featuring a joystick and patch points, and offers professional I/O, USB, and MIDI jacks.

For enthusiasts eagerly awaiting the return of the PS-3300 FS, has been display at NAMM 2024. While the availability and pricing details are yet to be announced, this reissue is poised to make a significant impact in the world of analog synthesizers. For those seeking a departure from the digital realm, the PS-3300 FS promises an authentic and mesmerizing experience, as evidenced by an audio snippet available on Korg UK website.
