A Modern "Classic" Icon at EICMA 2023
The Lambretta Elettra took center stage at the EICMA 2023 motorcycle expo in Milan, Italy, marking its global debut. With roots tracing back to the iconic mod movement of the 1960s in the UK, where Vespas and Lambrettas played central roles, this electric update by Lambretta promises a blend of modern aesthetics and classic charm.
Designed under the leadership of company president Walter Scheffrahn, the Elettra draws inspiration from the Lambretta LD scoot of the 1950s, echoing the electrification path paved by Piaggio with the Vespa a few years ago.
Sporting a steel frame and die-cast aluminum chassis, the e-scooter features a rear section that opens up to reveal the battery compartment and electronics. While the 4.6-kWh LFP battery is not removable, the WMTC-certified per-charge range is reported at 103.5 km (65 miles). Real-world usage shows figures of up to 127 km (79 miles) at 40 km/h (25 mph) or 62.3 km (38.7 miles) at 81 km/h (50 mph). Recharging takes 5.5 hours over a 220-V home outlet, with fast-charging supported for an 80% top-up in just 35 minutes.
Powering the Elettra is a 4-kW motor, peaking at 11 kW, capable of reaching top speeds of 110 km/h (68 mph) and delivering 258 Nm (190 lb.ft) of torque. Three power modes offer versatility to riders.
Key features include 12-inch wheels, double-shock front suspension, a rear monoshock connected to an aluminum swingarm, a comfortable seat at 780 mm (30 in) height, wooden "retractable" brake levers, double LED headlights, and a spacious storage compartment suitable for a helmet.
While Lambretta confirmed the Elettra's imminent production, details on pricing and availability are yet to be disclosed. The electric scooter enthusiasts eagerly await more information as this modern incarnation of a timeless classic prepares to hit the streets.
