New Features and Optimizations Aimed at Gamers Using Arm Architecture
Microsoft has enhanced the gaming experience on Arm-based Copilot+ PCs with the latest Windows 11 version 24H2 update. This week, the tech giant unveiled a series of updates and optimizations tailored for Arm architecture, promising improved performance and compatibility across various gaming titles.
In a blog post on the Microsoft developer website, the company detailed several key technologies that are set to revolutionize gaming on Arm-based Windows devices. Among these innovations is the Prism emulator, a groundbreaking solution that seamlessly converts x86 or x64 code to the Arm64 instruction set. This capability allows legacy applications and a substantial backlog of games to run efficiently on Arm-based Windows 11 devices, opening up a broader spectrum of gaming possibilities.
A notable demonstration showcased Baldur's Gate 3 running on a Qualcomm Snapdragon X PC utilizing Prism. While performance was described as promising yet not flawless, it represents a significant step towards enabling a diverse gaming ecosystem on Arm architecture.
Furthermore, Microsoft emphasized its commitment to ensuring robust anti-cheat support on Windows 11 24H2 for Arm. Major anti-cheat solutions such as BattlEye, Denuvo Anti-Cheat, and Wellbia XIGNCODE3 / UNCHEATER are now fully compatible with Windows on Arm, addressing concerns about fair gameplay and security.
The company also provided a compelling demonstration with Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege running smoothly on Arm-based hardware, showcasing the efficacy of these anti-cheat solutions in maintaining a secure gaming environment.
In addition to gaming optimizations, Microsoft has released details regarding printer support and overall app performance improvements tailored specifically for Windows 11 24H2 on Arm. These enhancements aim to streamline user experience and ensure compatibility across a wide range of applications beyond gaming.
