Industry-leaked details hint at a groundbreaking release, signaling a potential era of intelligent computing
Taiwan's Commercial Times (CTEE) has reported that Microsoft is gearing up for the launch of Windows 12 in June 2024. The leak aligns with earlier speculations, adding weight to the anticipation surrounding the next-generation operating system.
While specific details remain elusive, the report points to statements made by Quanta Chairman Lin Baili and Acer Chairman and CEO Chen Junsheng at the Taiwan Medical Technology Exhibition. These industry leaders hinted at the upcoming Windows release, creating a buzz around the potential debut at Computex 2024.
Quanta Computer, a key player in Taiwan's tech landscape, and global PC manufacturer Acer, add credibility to the leak, given their involvement in the production of PCs and electronics hardware.
The South-East Asian region, known for its robust tech manufacturing ecosystem, serves as a fitting source for such leaks and rumors, given its pivotal role in the assembly and production of computer components.
Earlier this year, a senior Intel executive alluded to a "Windows refresh" in 2024, leaving enthusiasts speculating whether it pertains to Windows 12 or a substantial update to Windows 11.
What sets this leak apart is the mention of AI-based PCs accompanying the Windows 12 launch. Microsoft, having recently emphasized AI features like Copilot, is expected to recommend systems equipped with dedicated AI-accelerating hardware. Partnerships with industry giants such as AMD, Intel, and Nvidia might further solidify this recommendation.
The likelihood of these AI-enhanced systems becoming a minimum requirement remains uncertain, given the current prevalence of PCs lacking AMD's Ryzen AI technology and Intel's NPU/VPU. Microsoft's recent participation in AMD's CES 2023 event, advocating for the advantages of such hardware, adds weight to the prospect of recommended AI-centric configurations.
As the tech world eagerly awaits Microsoft's official announcement, the integration of AI hardware hints at a more sophisticated and intelligent computing experience with the potential to reshape the landscape of personal computing.
