Carl Pei Announces Innovative Update for Nothing Phone Users on X Platform
In a recent announcement on X, Carl Pei, the co-founder of Nothing, unveiled an exciting update for Nothing Phone users. This update introduces a discreet call recording feature, aimed at enhancing user privacy and convenience. Pei revealed that this feature is now available for all Nothing Phone 1, Phone 2, and the newly launched Phone 2a users.
Previously, recording phone calls on Nothing's devices required users to utilize the default recording option in the Google dialler, which inevitably alerted all parties on the call about the ongoing recording. However, with the introduction of the new recorder widget on Nothing's phones, users can now record calls discreetly without notifying others on the call.
Many have asked for discreet call recording on Nothing phones. This is now possible through our new recorder widget. 🎙️

Pei emphasized that this addition was a response to the high demand from Nothing's user community. While the capability for discreet call recording raises concerns about potential misuse, Pei explained that alerting other parties about the recording often defeats the purpose, especially when the intention is to protect users from harmful interactions. This innovative feature aligns with Nothing's commitment to empowering users and safeguarding their digital experiences.
Moreover, Pei hinted at further improvements to the notification panel on Nothing phones, promising enhanced user control and interaction. Although specific details about these changes were not disclosed, the company's dedication to refining user interfaces suggests a continuous focus on delivering seamless and intuitive experiences.
The introduction of discreet call recording marks a significant step forward for Nothing Phones, reaffirming their dedication to user-centric innovation and privacy protection. By the way must be noted that other companies (for example Xiaomi, which featured a similar discrete recording option in its MIUI phone app) were forced in the past to remove such applications in order to adhere to local privacy laws - especially in the EU - which forbidden a call to be recorded without informing the counterpart, resulting in the proprietary app being replaced by the Google standard call recorder.
