OpenAI's ChatGPT set Voice chat free for all users. Previously exclusive to paid tiers, this conversational feature is now accessible through ChatGPT's iOS or Android app. To engage, simply tap the headphones icon. Unfortunately, inquiries related with the ongoing Altman's soap-opera receive no responses claiming "no public reports or indications".

Despite this limitation, the ChatGPT voice function offers a lively alternative to voice assistants like Siri, boasting five voice options. Your text-based conversations are saved, excluding audio clips. The feature auto-detects languages, and settings can be adjusted accordingly. 

The introduction of voice capabilities to ChatGPT's free version presents a potential Siri alternative, especially for iPhone 15 Pro users who can map ChatGPT to the new Action button via Settings > Action Button > Shortcut.

However, distinctions between Siri and ChatGPT remain, with Siri's deep integration into iPhones for actions like setting timers and controlling volume. Yet, ChatGPT excels in general knowledge queries with its conversational style, albeit prone to occasional inaccuracies. 

Despite OpenAI's internal struggles, this free and entertaining feature captures user attention, providing a respite from the ongoing boardroom drama. The impact of these behind-the-scenes battles on the AI chatbot landscape in 2024 remains uncertain.
