The 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris promises to be one of the biggest sporting events of the year, and for viewers in the United States, the Peacock streaming service is positioning itself as the go-to platform for the event. However, new subscribers will face increased costs when the games kick off on July 26, just a week after Peacock's price hike goes into effect.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Peacock will raise the monthly subscription fees for its Premium plans by $2 for new customers, starting July 18. The ad-based Peacock Premium plan will increase from $5.99 to $7.99 a month, while the ad-free Premium Plus plan will jump from $11.99 to $13.99 a month.

The annual subscription fees for these plans will also rise, with the Premium plan reaching $79.99 and the Premium Plus plan hitting $139.99.

While these price increases may concern potential new customers, there is a silver lining for existing subscribers. They will not be subjected to the higher rates until August 17, giving them nearly a month to enjoy the Olympics at the current pricing. Furthermore, customers who opt for an annual subscription before July 18 can avoid the price hike until mid-2025.

NBCUniversal, Peacock's parent company, views the 2024 Summer Olympics as an opportunity to attract a significant number of new subscribers. To entice audiences, Peacock has announced a new feature called Multiview, allowing subscribers to watch up to four different Olympic events simultaneously on supported devices. However, the service will determine which events are available for Multiview, selecting what it believes to be the most exciting content at any given time.

As the 2024 Summer Olympics approach, viewers in the United States will need to weigh the cost of Peacock's increased subscription fees against the promise of a comprehensive and unique streaming experience. For many sports fans, the opportunity to watch the Olympics across multiple events and platforms may make the price hike worthwhile.
