Google is set to raise the bar with the first Pixel Feature Drop of 2024. The update brings a host of new features and enhancements to the Pixel 8 series, with some exclusive perks for the Pixel 8 Pro, and even a new colorway to spice up the lineup.

Pixel 8 Series Exclusive Features

  1. Medical-grade Body Temperature Measurements/Fitbit Integration (Pixel 8 Pro): Google has secured FDA approval to utilize the temperature sensor in the Pixel 8 Pro for medical-grade body temperature measurements. Users can now take precise readings and save them to their Fitbit profiles, turning the Pixel 8 Pro into a health-tracking powerhouse.
  2. Circle to Search (Pixel 8 Pro/Pixel 8): Debuting on January 31, the Circle to Search feature allows users to interact with their screens in a novel way. By long-pressing the home button or navigation bar, users can circle, highlight, tap, or scribble over content on their screen to seamlessly search for more information without leaving the current app.
  3. Magic Compose (Pixel 8 Pro/Pixel 8): The Google Messages app is set to receive a generative AI feature called Magic Compose. This tool allows users to rewrite drafted messages in different styles, adding a touch of professionalism or drama. While Pixel 8 Pro users can enjoy on-device functionality, other Pixel devices will benefit from the feature as a cloud AI service.

Features for Older Pixel Devices

  1. Photomoji (Pixel 3a and up):  Google Messages introduces Photomoji, a feature that transforms photos into reactions. Previously available to beta testers, Photomoji is now released to the public. Users can create expressive reactions by selecting an image from the media picker.
  2. Quick Share (Android 6 and up/Chrome OS version 91 and up/64-bit Windows 10 and up): The well-known Nearby Share feature, rebranded as Quick Share, is making its way to Pixel phones. This functionality allows users to swiftly share files between their Pixel phones and other devices, bringing an enhanced file-sharing experience to Pixel users.
  3. Audio Switch (Pixel Watch/Pixel Watch 2/Pixel Tablet/Pixel 5a and up):  Pixel Buds Pro's automatic device-switching capability is extending to the Pixel ecosystem. Now, users of Pixel Watch, Pixel Watch 2, Pixel Tablet, and Pixel 5a can seamlessly switch between devices, with notifications providing insights into the audio destination.

As Google rolls out these exciting updates, Pixel users can anticipate a more feature-rich and dynamic experience. Whether you own the latest Pixel 8 or an older Pixel device, this Feature Drop brings something for everyone, emphasizing Google's dedication to providing a cutting-edge user experience.
