Base Models Lagging Behind the Ultra with Processor Differences and Surprising Omissions
In a substantial leak ahead of Samsung's official Galaxy S24 series debut, detailed information about the upcoming smartphones has emerged. The leak, originating from Windows Report, includes official-looking images and highlights significant distinctions between the Galaxy S24 Ultra and its base counterparts, the Galaxy S24 and S24+.
The leaked images showcase the Galaxy S24 Ultra's new colors and titanium build, along with notable changes in specs, notably the removal of the 10x telephoto camera. However, the leak suggests that the base Galaxy S24 and S24+ may lag behind the Ultra in certain aspects.
Reportedly, the mass-market flagships will introduce four new color options: "Onyx Black," "Marble Grey," "Cobalt Violet," and "Amber Yellow." While the overall design appears similar to the Galaxy S23, significant enhancements lie beneath the surface.
Samsung's upcoming AI features are expected to debut on these devices, offering capabilities such as translating messaging apps and photo editing. Cooling improvements are also mentioned, with 1.5x and 1.6x enhancements to the vapor chamber size for both devices.
Despite these updates, the build materials remain unchanged, with Samsung opting for aluminum instead of titanium, as seen in the Galaxy S24 Ultra. The Galaxy S24+ stands out with 12GB of RAM, while the Galaxy S24 starts at 8GB. The base model retains 128GB of storage, a 4,000 mAh battery, and a camera setup consistent with its larger counterpart.
However, one notable difference is the processor choice. The leak suggests that only the Galaxy S24+ will feature the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, leaving the regular Galaxy S24 with the Exynos 2400. The global reach of this processor discrepancy is yet to be confirmed.
Surprisingly, both the Galaxy S24 and S24+ omit UWB (Ultra-Wideband) technology, a feature previously present in Samsung's "Plus" line. This unexpected exclusion raises questions, given Samsung's prior emphasis on UWB support.
The Galaxy S24 series is anticipated to make its formal debut in mid-January, offering consumers a closer look at Samsung's latest innovations and differentiators across its flagship models.
