T.M. Roh Speaks Up on the Fate of Galaxy AI Once Free Access Expires
The integration of artificial intelligence (AI) has become a cornerstone for enhancing user experiences. Samsung has been at the forefront of this revolution with its Galaxy AI, a suite of intelligent features designed to augment daily interactions with their devices. However, as the clock ticks towards 2025, a pivotal moment looms: what lies ahead for Galaxy AI once its complimentary access expires?
T.M. ROH - SAMSUNG MOBILE CHIEF
T.M. Roh, Samsung’s mobile chief, recently broke the silence surrounding this pressing question. During the launch of the Galaxy S24 series, Roh reaffirmed that Galaxy AI's features would remain freely accessible to customers until 2025. Beyond this date, uncertainty clouds the fate of this transformative technology.
Roh disclosed to ET Telecom that Samsung has yet to solidify its strategy regarding the monetization of Galaxy AI post-2025. However, he hinted at a potential shift towards a subscription-based model, offering enhanced AI capabilities to paying subscribers. In his words:
"There will be consumers who will be satisfied with using the AI capabilities for free... But there could also be customers who wish for even more powerful AI capabilities and [are willing to] pay for them."
With over a year left to deliberate, Samsung remains tight-lipped about its definitive plans for Galaxy AI's financial future. Amidst this ambiguity, Roh paints an optimistic outlook for Galaxy AI's expansion in the near term. Samsung aims to proliferate this technology to over 100 million devices worldwide in 2024, marking a significant milestone in its integration across the Galaxy ecosystem.
As the countdown to 2025 continues, Samsung finds itself at a crossroads, balancing innovation, profitability, and consumer satisfaction. The trajectory it chooses for Galaxy AI post-2025 will not only shape the future of mobile AI but also redefine Samsung's position in an increasingly competitive market.
