Positioned as an advancement over its predecessors, the Nxtwear S Plus offers a suite of enhancements aimed at delivering an immersive AR experience.

Connectivity lies at the heart of the Nxtwear S Plus experience. Unlike standalone competitors such as the Apple Vision Pro and Meta Quest 3, TCL's AR glasses require a compatible connected device to function fully. Users can establish this connection through the USB-C Display Port or additional adaptors, though the latter may necessitate separate purchases. Once tethered to a smartphone or console, the Nxtwear S Plus unlocks a world of 3D visuals boasting a resolution of 3840 x 1080 pixels.

Noteworthy among the upgrades over its predecessors is the Nxtwear S Plus's improved brightness, refresh rate, and lighter build. With OLED screens offering 600 nits of brightness – a notable 200-nit increase – users can expect enhanced contrast and vibrant colors. Moreover, the dual OLED displays support a maximum refresh rate of 120 Hz, marking a significant leap from the previous iteration. Tipping the scales at a mere 87 grams, the Nxtwear S Plus sheds 2 grams compared to its forerunners, promising a slightly more comfortable wearing experience.

Despite these advancements, the pricing strategy of the Nxtwear S Plus warrants scrutiny. Priced at $399 upon release, the new model matches the launch price of its predecessors. However, the regular Nxtwear S glasses have witnessed price reductions over time, often accompanied by discounts.

In the competitive landscape of AR technology, the TCL Nxtwear S Plus navigates a delicate balance between innovation and market positioning. While it may not directly rival the standalone capabilities of industry heavyweights, its blend of affordability and performance could appeal to users seeking an entry point into the immersive world of augmented reality.
