Ubisoft's Game Subscription Service Adapts to Changing Trends in Gaming with Premium and Classics plans
Ubisoft has announced significant changes to its game subscription service, formerly known as Uplay+ and later rebranded as Ubisoft+. The alterations include the consolidation of Ubisoft+ Multi-Access and PC Access into a single tier named Ubisoft+ Premium, as well as the introduction of a more affordable option, Ubisoft+ Classics for PC users.
In an official blog post, Ubisoft outlined that the newly merged Ubisoft+ Premium will maintain its monthly subscription fee of $17.99. This premium tier will continue to provide subscribers with the unique advantage of accessing all new Ubisoft game releases on the day of launch, sometimes even before the official release date. As an illustration, Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown is available on Ubisoft+ Premium three days ahead of its general release on January 18.
Ubisoft+ Premium not only grants access to the latest titles but also includes an extensive library of older games from Ubisoft. This encompasses premium editions of these games and downloadable content (DLC). What sets Ubisoft+ Premium apart is its cross-platform compatibility, catering to Xbox, PC, and Amazon Luna users. A single subscription enables gamers to enjoy Ubisoft titles seamlessly across these diverse platforms.
Alongside this, Ubisoft introduces Ubisoft+ Classics, a cost-effective plan priced at $7.99 per month, specifically tailored for PC users. This plan focuses on providing access to a curated selection of older games from Ubisoft's rich portfolio, such as Far Cry 6, Rainbow Six Siege, and Watch Dogs: Legion. Notably, Ubisoft+ Classics has been available at no additional cost for PlayStation+ Extra and PlayStation+ Premium subscribers since last year, although its availability for Xbox and Luna users remains uncertain.
While Ubisoft has not disclosed specific subscriber numbers, the blog post suggests a positive trajectory for Ubisoft+ in 2023. The statement indicates that the program has exceeded projections in terms of subscriber acquisition. Moreover, the month of October saw the highest number of monthly active users since the service's launch. This surge in user engagement is attributed to the release of Assassin's Creed Mirage, acknowledged by Ubisoft as its most significant game launch for current-generation consoles.
