The long-awaited feature will be implemented for Dual SIM and eSIM devices
In a recent announcement, WhatsApp is set to introduce a long-awaited feature that will allow users to set up a second account on the same device. This move comes as a significant development in the world of messaging apps and promises added convenience for users with dual SIM or eSIM-compatible phones.
Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Meta, WhatsApp's parent company, shared the news across various platforms, including Facebook and the newly introduced WhatsApp channels. The feature has been in development for several months through beta and WhatsApp Business versions and has now officially received the green light. The primary objective of this new capability is to enable users to effortlessly switch between two WhatsApp accounts, especially for those who manage both personal and professional phone numbers.
Previously, users had limited options to manage two WhatsApp accounts on the same device. They either had to rely on two separate phones, which could be cumbersome and impractical, or use third-party app cloning solutions that allowed the use of multiple accounts within a single app. However, WhatsApp's decision to integrate this functionality directly into the native app is a welcome move, as very few leading messaging apps offer such a feature.
Setting up a multi-account on WhatsApp is a straightforward process. Users will need a device that supports multi-SIM or eSIM functionality and possesses a secondary phone number in addition to their primary one. Once these criteria are met, setting up the second account is as simple as navigating to WhatsApp settings, clicking on the arrow beside their name, and selecting "Add account."
Importantly, users can configure privacy and notification settings separately for each account, ensuring a seamless and personalized experience.
This latest addition to WhatsApp's feature set joins a slew of recent announcements, highlighting the platform's commitment to enhancing user experience. These recent features include the ability to add the same WhatsApp account to another Android tablet, use the same account across up to four devices, and the introduction of passkeys for enhanced security within the messaging service.
With this new feature, WhatsApp aims to further cement its status as one of the top messaging apps by providing users with greater flexibility and convenience, especially for those with multiple phone numbers and communication needs. The update is expected to roll out to users in the near future, making it easier than ever to manage multiple WhatsApp accounts on a single device.
