Goodbye MIUI. Say welcome to... MIUI
Xiaomi, the global tech giant known for its innovative smartphones and user-centric approach, recently announced a significant shift in its operating system strategy. The company is bidding farewell to its iconic MIUI graphic interface, which has been a staple in its smartphones, in favor of a new and exciting operating system known as HyperOS. This transformation is set to debut with the highly anticipated Xiaomi 14 series and will gradually replace MIUI on Xiaomi devices worldwide. Let's take a closer look at the leaked details and what HyperOS has in store for Xiaomi enthusiasts.
A Familiar Yet Refreshed Experience
Freshly leaked images from a Telegram channel aptly named "Xiaomi HyperOS" (note that this channel is not affiliated with Xiaomi) provide us with a sneak peek into what HyperOS may have in store. Surprisingly, it bears a strong resemblance to MIUI, which has been the face of Xiaomi smartphones for a considerable time.
These leaks stem from a development build with the identifier 23.9.28, indicating that it was constructed on September 28, 2023. It's important to note that these are early versions, and the final HyperOS release may bring additional refinements.
User Interface Changes
The images showcase several noteworthy changes in various system apps. Notably, the Control Centre, which is equivalent to the quick settings toggles in MIUI, sports a fresh look.
YouTube channel Technobuzznet published a video demonstrating it's new features:
Xiaomi has also revamped the Security app with a new user interface, enhancing its aesthetics and functionality.
Users will notice a consistent overhaul in applications like File Manager, Weather, Messages, Gallery, Calendar, and Clock. These changes are designed to provide a more modern and cohesive user experience.
One significant improvement is found in the Wallpaper and Personalization section within the Settings app. This area, which also governs the Lockscreen submenu, is expected to offer a wide array of pre-made lockscreen styles. If none of these pre-sets appeals to you, HyperOS may provide customization options akin to what Android 14 offers.
The Calculator app has received a polished user interface as well, making everyday tasks more user-friendly and visually appealing.
Aesthetically Pleasing Animations and Visuals
HyperOS introduces new charging animations that add flair to the user experience. In addition, the status bar now displays changes in battery and sound status, improving the user's understanding of the device's state.
For those who appreciate an Always-On Display, the new AOD system app offers fresh styles. Transition animations between the AOD and the lockscreen, as demonstrated by YouTuber Technobuzz, indicate that Xiaomi is paying attention to the finer details of the user interface.
The Transition from MIUI to HyperOS
While HyperOS is poised to replace MIUI, it's essential to acknowledge that the leaked APKs still reference "MIUI 15." Xiaomi appears to have removed explicit mentions of "MIUI" and replaced them with references to the "system" or "OS." This suggests that HyperOS maintains a substantial foundation from MIUI while refining the user experience.
Yet the "new" interface still looks very similar to the old one. Actually very very similar. As a loyal Xiaomi user and MIUI enthusiast the first thing that comes into my mind is if the choice to ditch MIUI makes sense from a branding and commercial point of view. The MIUI name and iconic logotypes, in fact, has been synonym of Xiaomi and the kind of usability that users used to love for decades, now. The only reasonable thing here is that maybe this is the first step of a deeper transition that could lead to substantial changes even under the hood, something similar to the choices adopted by Huawei with its Harmony OS.
The Anticipated Launch
Xiaomi's HyperOS is rumored to make its official debut on October 27, alongside the release of the Xiaomi 14 series in China. As the launch date approaches, we can expect more details to emerge, shedding light on what HyperOS will effectively bring to Xiaomi users.
In conclusion, HyperOS promises a fresh, updated experience for Xiaomi device owners while retaining the familiar aspects that users have grown to love with MIUI. These early glimpses into HyperOS hint at a promising transition for Xiaomi, and the tech community eagerly awaits the official release to see how Xiaomi's next OS will shape the future of its devices. However, it's important to exercise caution and discretion when dealing with leaked APKs from unofficial sources, ensuring that the official release remains the most secure and reliable option for users.
